Dear Principals & School Leaders,
Community Languages Victoria (CLV) welcomes all community language schools (CLS) to another exciting year.
The CLV team has planned many activities for your school’s leadership and teachers, starting with two information sessions on preparing for the school year and reviewing and maintaining policy documents.
These sessions will provide information on the 2024 CLS funding program and how to apply using the SmartyGrants online
portal.
CLS Funding Information Sessions
The CLS Funding Information Sessions will be held on the following days and registration is essential:
Attendance at ONE of the information sessions
is mandatory for new CLS seeking funding for the first time in 2024.
Given that it is a reaccreditation year for all CLS, preparing early and ensuring the policy documents are current and implemented is essential.
The Professional Learning Activities Program will commence in March
with more PD sessions and training courses, including a Leadership Program for our principals and leaders.
A series of Quality Assurance Framework workshops focusing on the implementation of the framework is planned for the first half of the year.
Our Child Safety and Compliance Officer has prepared essential policy documents and templates relating to Child Safety for your CLS. These documents will be available on the CLV website. A series of Child Safety training sessions (face-to-face) targeting new teachers and administrators is scheduled for late February. CLS are responsible for ensuring staff and parents are familiar with these policies.
Principals and School Administrators are responsible for ensuring all relevant policies are publicly accessible, implemented and adhered to.
Update to VCE Providers
An extensive focus will be given to our VCE language program and VRQA minimum requirements.
CLV has completed a re-registration process for the next five years as a non-school senior secondary and foundation secondary provider (NSSSFSP). This rigorous process required revising, updating and developing policy documents.
Our VCE providers must adopt those template documents and implement these policies. Two workshops are scheduled for February to discuss the process and guidelines. CLV will visit at least 30 VCE sites annually to ensure compliance with VRQA requirements.
Other Updates
CLV and CLA will be celebrating National Community Language Schools Day. The celebration is planned for the third Saturday in May, awarding outstanding teachers and excellent students and showcasing the great work of our community language schools.
Finally, we will be looking forward towards our most significant events of the year:
- Victorian State Community Language Schools' Conference (Melbourne – July)
- National Community Language Schools' Conference (Brisbane – October)
The CLV team wishes all schools a successful school year.
