MEDIA RELEASE

Dear Principals, School Leaders and Representatives,

We are pleased to share that Community Languages Victoria (CLV) has successfully secured $440,000 in funding under the Australian Government’s Community Language Schools Grants Program – Fluency in Asian Languages Round 1.

This significant investment recognises the important role community language schools play in supporting Asian language learning, strengthening cultural identity, and building pathways for students to continue language studies through to senior secondary levels.

The funding will support a statewide initiative focused on strengthening Asian language pathways from the middle years through to VCE, while also building long-term capability across the community language school sector.

Key areas of focus will include:

• strengthening pathways for Asian language learning through to Year 12
• supporting teachers through professional learning, collaboration, and shared resources
• enhancing curriculum and assessment support for schools
• increasing student engagement and participation in Asian language education
• developing stronger sector-wide support structures and sustainability initiatives

As part of this initiative, CLV will also work toward establishing enhanced digital collaboration and resource-sharing opportunities for educators across the sector.

This funding outcome is an important milestone not only for CLV, but for the broader community language school sector across Victoria. It reflects growing recognition of the vital contribution our schools, teachers, volunteers and communities make to Australia’s multicultural and educational landscape.

While this particular funding stream is targeted toward Asian language education, the initiative will contribute to broader sector capability-building, professional learning, resource development, and collaborative infrastructure that will strengthen CLV’s overall support capacity across the community language school sector.
