We've brought back some in-demand relevant topics and presenters for you. We're also continuing with a mix of In Person and Online sessions. The In Person sessions will continue to be in Carlton for now.

Please submit ONE form per participant. For the In Person sessions, as they are limited to 25 participants, only successful registrants will receive a confirmation email.

You should receive a confirmation email approximately 1 week prior the in person sessions and 3 days prior the online sessions.

Classroom Management & Mixed Levels with Dr Teresa De Fazio (ONLINE)
Learning Outcomes
  • Identify and examine challenges that arise in mixed level language classes
  • Explore and develop practical activities to support working in challenging mixed level classroom settings
  • Analyse approaches to classroom management in relation to accommodating and harnessing mixed levels

Group Activities To Enhance Learning Using The Curriculum with Elizabeth Karakehagias (FACE-TO-FACE)
Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn to:
  • Collaborate in group tasks and shared experiences
  • Interact in class activities using questions, statements and responses to enhance, demonstrate and share understanding.

Effective Instructional Model for the Language Classroom with Majida Ali (ONLINE)
Learning Outcomes
Teachers will take away with them an instructional model that includes the following:
  • The Gradual Release of Responsibility (I do, we do, you do)
  • The use of technology to teach language
  • Empowering students with Voice, Agency and Leadership.

  • Teaching Principles

Managing Challenging Classroom Behaviours with Dr Teresa De Fazio (ONLINE)
Learning Outcomes
  • Identify challenging behaviours and explore consequences
  • Explore practical techniques to address challenging behaviours and engage students in positive ways
  • Reflect on ways to ensure teacher resilience and creating a strong collaborative culture in the classroom

Classroom Strategies: Aiming for a Calm, Productive Learning Environment with Elizabeth Karakehagias (FACE-TO-FACE)
Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn to:
  • Create a Sense of Order and Routine.
  • Positively Reinforce Good Behavior.

Unpacking the High Impact Teaching Strategies Part 1: Using the HITS to Improve Writing by Dr Andrea Truckenbrodt (FACE-TO-FACE)
Learning Outcomes
In this workshop, teachers will be introduced to three effective teaching strategies (HITS) that promote student learning:
  • HITS #3 Structuring lessons
  • HITS #4 Worked example
  • HITs # 5 Feedback

Teachers will become more familiar with what these HITS are and what they look like in the Languages classroom.

The workshop will show how to scaffold students’ writing by:
  • sequencing the learning activities, linking reading and writing
  • explicit teaching using modelling and think aloud, and
  • different ways of giving useful feedback

Assessment (Formative and Summative) and Reporting of Students Learning with Majida Ali (ONLINE)
Learning Outcomes
Teachers will learn:
- The difference between formative and summative assessment.
- the importance of formative assessment to inform planning
- how to use summative assessment to report on student learning.

Meaningful Intercultural Language Teaching Strategies and Classroom Ideas with Dr Teresa De Fazio (FACE-TO-FACE)
Learning Outcomes
  • Explore notion of intercultural language teaching in the community languages setting
  • Examine practical ideas to support using intercultural language teaching methods to engage students
  • Unpack ways of assessing intercultural language teaching in the classroom

Planning an Effective Lesson Plan In Line with the Victorian Curriculum with Majida Ali (ONLINE)
Learning Outcomes
Teachers will learn:
- The 4-step process to designing an effective lesson plan.
- About learning intentions and success criteria.
- How to link their topic to the Victorian Curriculum description and achievement standards.

Problem-Based Learning Approaches To Engage Student Interest with Dr Teresa De Fazio (FACE-TO-FACE)
Learning Outcomes
  • Consider challenges and opportunities for deep learning through problem-based learning approaches
  • Explore practical application of problem-based learning approaches to support good learning and teaching
  • Analyse concepts around problem-based learning to facilitate further teacher development

Participants of this workshop will:
  • Become familiar with the key features of the revised CCAFL study designs
  • Know where to look for further information
  • Know who to contact for further information
