Classroom Management Techniques for the Community Language Classroom with Dr Teresa De Fazio Participants will be able to:
- Consider classroom management challenges and identify various approaches to respond to these challenges
- Enhance their skills in addressing classroom management issues
- Develop confidence in their skills and understandings to establish a respectful learning and teaching culture in the classroom
The Multi-Layered Classroom: How
to Navigate Classrooms with Mixed Ages and Abilities with Elizabeth Karakehagias Every classroom has many layers of attainment and achievements. This brings challenges that can be addressed through careful planning.
Participants will be able to:
- Participate collaboratively in shared class experiences
- Develop ability and confidence to respond to questions and use key features of
the language
Respectful and Inclusive Teaching Practices for the Community Languages Classroom with Dr Teresa De Fazio
Participants will be able to:
- Identify various teaching practices which reflect an inclusive approach and why this is important in the community languages classroom
- Develop an approach to ensuring that students and staff feel included, free from discriminatory and othering behaviour
- Understand how they might support students in developing better skills in responding to challenges
Unpacking the HITS: How Can I Use These Strategies to Improve Outcomes For My Language Learners? (Primary Focus) with Dr Andrea Truckenbrodt Participants to this workshop will deepen their understanding of the High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS) through a range of activities and professional
discussion. We will consider what the HITS look like in language learning classrooms for the different skill areas and how and why they can improve student learning. Participants are asked to come to the seminar with a short written description of a favourite teaching tool, technique or text and be prepared to share how it is used in their classroom.Increasing Students' Engagement Using Problem-Based Learning with Dr Teresa De Fazio
Participants will be to:
- Understand the fundamentals of a problem-based language learning approach
- Develop confidence in their skills and understandings to develop PBLL based lessons to engage student curiosity and enhance learning
- Explore aspects of PBLL and how it might be used in their particular teaching context
Intercultural Language Teaching Activities with Dr Teresa De Fazio Participants will be to:
- Consider how to design intercultural language teaching activities to engage student curiosity and learning.
- Enhance their skills in responding to challenges in implementing intercultural teaching approaches in the languages classroom
- Develop confidence in their skills and understandings to establish a curious growth mindset around intercultural learning

- an overview of the VCE Study Designs and other relevant VCAA documents that can be used to plan their teaching and learning programs and to develop assessment tasks for Units 1-4.
