Welcome to our first issue of the CLV Newsletter. Our aim is to update you regularly on all matters community language schools.

Keep reading until the end for some very important updates and reminders.

CHANGE OF DATE FOR CLV DINNER

Due to a change in circumstances, the CLV Committee has resolved to move the date of the CLV Dinner from Saturday, May 18, 2024, to Saturday, September 7, 2024. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Schools that have paid for tickets will receive a full refund today.

STATE BUDGET

At the recent Victoria State Budget lockup meeting on Tuesday 7th May, $11 million was announced over the next 4 years to support community language schools in Victoria.

This will be allocated to a small increase in per capita funding from 2025.

CLV has been in contact with the Minister of Education’s Office and also the Department of Education to get a better understanding of the formula for annual increase over this period.

A media release with all the details will be announced shortly.

NATIONAL COMMUNITY LANGUAGE SCHOOLS DAY

The third Saturday of May is National Community Language Schools Day. It is an opportunity to promote your school to your community and the broader community. Schools might also announce programs that will continue for some time that are related to the day’s theme.

This year’s annual theme will be Art and Culture: A Key to Social Cohesion.

CHILD SAFETY TRAININGS

A reminder that we are currently conducting trainings in Carlton and other locations. The last one for Principals and CSOs will be on Tuesday 14 May so if you are a Principal or CSO and have not yet attended the Essential Aspects of a Child Safe Organisation training, please make sure you attend this one. For Mandatory Child Safe Training, they are being held in different locations and they are for NEW staff, volunteer and teachers who have never done this training. Register here: https://bit.ly/Child-Safety-Trainings-Regional

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

CLV MEMBERSHIP 2024

This is a friendly reminder to renew your Community Languages Victoria membership for the year 2024 if you haven't already done so.

Our annual membership fee is $30.
